If you are renting out a short-term rental unit in Edmonton or Calgary, you must have a business licence. There are fees for a business licence. Depending on whether you are in Calgary or Edmonton and the type of short-term rental unit, there may be additional inspections in the licencing process. For example, an AHS or fire inspection. When operating a short-term rental unit, you must follow regulations under your city’s Business Licence Bylaw. Be aware that there are fines for breaking the bylaws. If you have questions about short-term rentals outside of Edmonton or Calgary, contact your local municipality.
