FAQ – Can a tenant pay the security deposit in installments?

A tenant can try to negotiate with the landlord about paying the security deposit by installments. However, the landlord does not have to agree to a payment plan. If the landlord does agree to installments, the agreement should be in writing. Most landlords will require the full amount of the security deposit and first month’s rent before the tenant moves into the property.
