Ending a Periodic Tenancy

A landlord can only give notice to end a periodic tenancy for reasons:

  • that are allowed by the law, where a tenant is not at fault,
  • where a tenant has committed a substantial breach of the agreement,
  • or where a tenant has caused physical assault or damages to the property.

A tenant does not have to have a reason to end a tenancy, but must follow required notice periods.

This section deals only with a landlord or tenant ending a periodic tenancy where a landlord or a tenant is not at fault.
